Technique
- Stand tall and hold a weight plate at the sides, with the hands at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions and the plate against your thighs.
- Brace your abs and keep a slight bend in the elbows.
- Raise the plate in front of you to about eye level.
- Pause, then lower slowly back to your thighs.
Cues
- Keep the ribs down and the torso still.
- Raise the plate in a smooth arc with the arms almost straight.
- Lower slowly for more control.
Common mistakes
- Leaning back and swinging the plate up.
- Raising the plate far above eye level.
- Shrugging the shoulders.
- Using a plate so heavy that the elbows bend and the form breaks.
