- Lever Machine or Dumbbells or Barbell
Technique
- Sit with the balls of your feet on the footplate or a block and the knee pad, or the weight, resting on your lower thighs.
- Release the safety lever or settle the dumbbells or bar on your knees.
- Lower your heels as far as comfortable to stretch the calves.
- Push up onto the balls of your feet as high as you can, pause, and lower slowly.
Cues
- The bent knee shifts the work to the soleus; use slow, full reps.
- Pause at the top and in the stretch.
- Keep the pressure through the big toe side of the foot.
Common mistakes
- Bouncing out of the bottom.
- Using a tiny range of motion.
- Rolling onto the outer edge of the feet.
