Technique
- Set the Roman chair so your feet are secured and your hips rest on the pad edge, with your arms crossed on your chest.
- Lower your torso back just to a comfortable position without arching.
- Curl your torso up until you are upright or just past vertical.
- Lower again with control.
Cues
- Stay within a range where the lower back is neutral.
- Curl up rather than hinging at the hips.
Common mistakes
- Hyperextending the lower back at the bottom.
- Using momentum.
- Hands behind the head pulling the neck.
