Technique
- Adjust the seat so the handles line up with the upper chest, then load plates on each arm.
- Sit back against the pad with the feet flat and shoulder blades squeezed together.
- Press the handles up and forward until the arms are almost straight.
- Lower slowly until you feel a stretch across the upper chest.
Cues
- Drive the elbows slightly forward at the top.
- Keep the lower back on the pad.
Common mistakes
- Letting the shoulders shrug up toward the ears.
- Setting the seat so low that it turns into a shoulder press.
- Letting the plates drop fast on the way back.
