Technique
- Set a bench to a decline and lie on it with your head at the high end, gripping the bench behind your head.
- Bring your knees toward your chest with legs bent.
- Curl the hips up off the bench, lifting the pelvis toward your ribs.
- Lower under control until your legs extend again without touching the floor.
Cues
- Hold the bench firmly so you can curl the pelvis.
- Move slowly and avoid swinging.
Common mistakes
- Using momentum to throw the legs up.
- Hips sagging and lower back arching at the bottom.
- Setting a decline too steep for your strength.
- Hanging on the arms instead of curling with the abs.
