Technique
- Take a barbell from a rack set at mid-thigh height, or deadlift it from the floor, and stand tall with it in front of your thighs, hands just outside the hips.
- Keep your arms straight and relaxed.
- Lift your shoulders straight up toward your ears as high as you can.
- Pause at the top, then lower slowly to a full stretch.
Cues
- Move straight up and down; do not roll the shoulders.
- The arms are hooks: no bending at the elbows.
Common mistakes
- Rolling the shoulders in circles.
- Bouncing the weight with the knees.
- Poking the head forward at the top.
