Technique
- Anchor a band at chest height and hold an end in each hand, crossing or holding them in front of your chest, and step back until the band is tight.
- Stand tall with arms straight out in front of you at shoulder height and a slight bend in the elbows.
- Pull your hands apart in a wide arc until your arms are out to the sides.
- Squeeze the shoulder blades together, then return slowly to the start.
Cues
- Think of spreading the band with the backs of the hands.
- Keep the arms at shoulder height.
- Keep the neck long and the shoulders down.
Common mistakes
- Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears.
- Bending the elbows and rowing instead of spreading.
- Leaning back to use momentum.
- Letting the band snap back at the end.
