Technique
- Attach a short straight bar to a high pulley and stand facing the stack with an overhand grip about shoulder-width apart.
- Pin your elbows to your sides and start with the forearms just above parallel.
- Press the bar toward your thighs until the elbows lock out smoothly.
- Let the bar rise back up under control without moving the elbows.
Cues
- Keep the elbows pinned and the shoulders down.
- Squeeze the triceps at the bottom for a moment.
Common mistakes
- Leaning far over the bar to push with the body.
- Letting the elbows drift forward on the way up.
- Using a weight that makes the shoulders shrug.
