Technique
- Stand on a low, stable step with feet hip-width apart, a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
- Brace your abs, push the hips back and bend the knees, back flat.
- Lower the dumbbells along your legs below the level of the step.
- Push through your feet and stand tall, keeping the weights close to your legs.
Cues
- Start with a low step and raise it only if the back stays flat.
- Keep the spine neutral and the chest up.
Common mistakes
- Keeping the legs nearly straight so it turns into a stiff-leg deadlift.
- Rounding the lower back at the bottom.
- Standing too near the edge of the step.
