Technique
- Stand on one foot on a low step with a dumbbell in the hand or in both hands.
- Hinge at the hip, sending the free leg straight behind you, and lower the weight toward the floor.
- Keep the hips level and the back flat.
- Drive through the standing heel to return to upright.
Cues
- Keep a soft bend in the standing knee.
- Use a low step and a light weight until balance is solid.
- Touch a wall with your free hand for support if needed.
Common mistakes
- Rotating the hips open.
- Rounding the back.
- Using too much weight and losing balance.
