Technique
- Hold the barbell with an underhand grip about shoulder width apart.
- Hinge at the hips with a flat back and knees slightly bent, bar hanging at arm's length.
- Pull the bar to your lower stomach, keeping the elbows close to your sides.
- Lower the bar under control until your arms are straight.
Cues
- Keep the elbows tucked; the underhand grip brings the biceps in more.
- Hold the torso angle fixed for the whole set.
Common mistakes
- Standing up more with every rep to heave the bar.
- Curling the bar with the arms instead of pulling the elbows back.
- Rounding the lower back as the set gets tiring.
