Technique
- Set a bench to a low incline and lie back with a dumbbell in each hand.
- Hold the dumbbells above your shoulders with straight arms, palms facing each other.
- Bend only at the elbows and lower the dumbbells beside your head.
- Stop when your forearms are about parallel to the floor or slightly lower.
- Straighten your arms to raise the dumbbells back up.
Cues
- Keep the upper arms still and tilted slightly back toward your head.
- Keep the elbows about shoulder-width apart.
- Lower slowly and keep the dumbbells away from your face.
Common mistakes
- Letting the elbows flare out.
- Moving the upper arms so it turns into a press.
- Lowering the weights too fast near the head.
