## Technique

1. Stand tall with a dumbbell in each hand at your sides, palms facing in and a slight bend in the elbows.
2. Raise one arm out to the side until it is about shoulder height.
3. Lower it slowly as you begin raising the other arm.
4. Keep alternating sides for the planned number of reps.

### Cues

- Lead with the elbow rather than the hand.
- Keep the torso still while the arms alternate.
- Stop at shoulder height.

### Common mistakes

- Swinging the body to get the dumbbell up.
- Shrugging the shoulders.
- Raising the arm higher than shoulder level.
- Dropping the dumbbell quickly instead of controlling it.
